BBQ Run to Gennell Farm,Flaxton,York

As seems to be the way with this club, any event involving food is always popular and this run was no exception. 16 cars were booked in and the majority met up at Yarm station at 10.00. The weather was reasonable at this point and the forecast was good. John and San had put together an excellent run. We passed through some beautiful villages and eventually arrived at our coffee stop at the Sutton Bank Visitor Centre. By this time the sun was shining and Brymor ice cream beckoned. After refreshment we continued on our way. Passing through more pretty villages, we eventually arrived at the farm. There was a large gazebo with plenty of tables and chairs. Also a table with tea, coffee and juice. It wasn’t too long before the BBQ was ready. The food was laid out on a table in the farmhouse kitchen and we were invited to help ourselves. Apart from the usual BBQ fayre, there were lots of different home-made salads. There was more food than we could possibly eat. After lunch, our resident ukulele band provided some entertainment. (NB: we still need to come up with a band name!) They did us proud and we heard a rumour that they’ve been asked to play for another BBQ at the farm.

The weather was gorgeous and we could have happily sat there all night but we reluctantly set off for home around 6.00pm.It was a pleasant run home back through Helmsley. Unfortunately, as is often the case, we had one car casualty. Derek and Pat overheated getting up Sutton Bank and ended up getting towed home.

A big thank you to John and Sandra for organizing this event and I think most people would agree we should perhaps consider making it an annual event.
