We’re almost at the end of 2018 and, before we look towards what 2019 may have in store, here’s a reminder of what we did this year.
The year started off with our annual fish and chip run. Always popular and well attended. In February we had our first breakfast run. The staff at RSPB Saltholme made us very welcome and everyone enjoyed their visit. March should have been our lunch run to Walworth Castle but this was moved to May due to the weather conditions. Fortunately, we got a nice day in May and had a lovely run and an excellent carvery. In April and we joined together with the Motor Club for their Drive It Day run. June was our summer BBQ at Flaxton. If you have been previously then you will know what a good day this always is. John and Sandra always do a good run and John and Angela Walker do a fabulous BBQ. July was the Tees Valley Trail. Unfortunately the weather let us down but, in spite of that, we raised £610.00 for our nominated charity, Zoes Place. Thank you to Ian and Jackie for all your hard work. August was our club stand at Swainby show. Again, the weather wasn t great and even our trusty club gazebo couldn’t protect us from the wind and rain. Mind you, it may have afforded some protection when we had a flat tyre on the way home. An authentic 1947 foot pump is all very quaint until you need to use it! In September we had a run to Durham Botanical Gardens. The weather was pleasant enough to sit outside with our coffee and cake. October was a mystery run which ended at The Jersey Farmhouse. An excellent carvery. Many thanks to Reg and Babs. When are we going again? That now brings me to the Xmas events. Change of venue for our lunch this year to The Shorthorn Inn. Great meal and good service. The Wainstones was a good night as was Xmas club night. Thank you to JMS (we missed you Stan).
Club nights have been varied too. We ve had the inter club quiz with our friends from Northallerton, both home and away. Thank you John B for organizing this and setting the quiz. The ice cream run has become an annual event and was particularly good this year thanks to the good weather. Many thanks to Pat and Derek. Owen planned a table top rally for us and various club members have volunteered to do the quiz. Thank you all. A special thank you to Derek for his wonderful entertainment. I didn’t know Bingo and Chase the Ace could be so much fun.
Whitby run just around the corner and then it all starts again. The committee will be putting next year’s calendar together in the next couple of weeks and all suggestions welcome.
Have a happy new year and I look forward to seeing everyone at Birk Brow.
